Default 208 road king tps error

Hello,

I am new to this site and new to Harley Davidson. This is my first Harley so forgive my ignorance. I have an 08 Road King I purchased this about 3 years ago and love this machine. I put a pigtail on the battery for the trickle down charger. Now I have a check engine light and I found the code is for the TPS. I cleared the code but the check engine light came right back on. I bought a Harley maintenance manual but there is no TPS in the manual. Does anyone have the correct solution?

Thanks

There is a bulletin out detailing TPS errors on the electronic throttle control bikes. 2008 touring is especially susceptible because the seat can hit the ECM and disrupt the connections.

I believe it is TT418A. The initial bulletin had you replacing only a few sockets. THe revised has you replacing many.

Before you do anything, read it.

My friends bike went to forced idle just as he merged into heavy highway traffic. Thank goodness he is a motorcycle cop and knew how to handle the situation. I replaced all his sockets at the ETC and he hasn't had a problem since.

Look this bulletin up and see how your bike compares. By 10K miles many would show the symptoms.

Default 2008 road king tps error code

Hey Ed
Thank you for that information. It seems that I have a lot of homework to do. I am really frustrated with Harley. I purchased the 2008 Toouring Service Manual for about $90. I got it and was excited to work on this and, hopefully, fix this myself. Apparently to do any electrical diagnostics, I have to buy a seperate manual. Long gone are the Chilton Days.

The connectors you need are only about a buck each. You'll need a quality crimp tool. With a lot of these, it turns out to be bad connections at the throttle body between the pins and the sockets.
