Looking at a Bell Revolver EVO ($199.00 full face) Modular Helmet. Just wondering if anyone knows anything about them. I'm in need of a new helmet, for my new ride! I have a half helmet I purchased several weeks weeks ago. I'm getting a lot of flack about it from several family members, one of them being my Mrs. So you know what that means. I'm starting a new job in Virginia Beach, VA in 2 weeks. We will be moving from PA to VA, I'm going to work for another 3 to 4 years and retire! So I need a good full face helmet to keep me safe at home and on the road. :-)
I prefer modular helmets when I wear a full-face. Although I mostly wear a DOT half helmet. The modulars are nice on hot days at a stop light, just flip the face up. They are also much easier to put on and take off. My buddy has the Revolver. He loves it. I think it looks great and it has a retractable sun shade. My modular helmet has one as well and it's a great feature.
As for safety. The majority of motorcycle related fatalities are not a result of head injuries. You should concern yourself with what helmet meets your needs not the opinions of non-riders. You're always going to have friends and family be concerned with your well being. The best thing to do is educate yourself, make your own decision, and then educate your loved ones on why you made your decision. You may also want to look into the modular vs. conventional full face safety debate as well.
If you are going to get a full face, I would recommend against the modular. It's a novelty item if you ask me. You will almost never lift your helmet after the novelty wears off and then you are left with a bulky, heavier helmet with less protection.
Get a good solid FF that has good sound proofing and the option of Pin Lock visor. After using my pin lock system, I can never go back...it works that good.
