Default Sportster pipes

I'm riding a 95 XLH883, I've owned it for about 4 months now & she runs great but I'm currently running pipes without the crossover connection, how much of a difference would this make? Either in sound or performance?

The cross-over pipe was discovered by BSA motorcycles back in the '60s, IIRC, by accident! It gives improved torque in the low/mid rev range, where most of us ride. It didn't take too long before every twin-cylinder bike on the planet was fitted with them, across all brands. So you are giving away a little extra performance, I suspect also that two separate pipes are a little noisier than pipes with a cross-over. If you look at a current Sportster you will see that they also have a cross-over pipe, but it is hidden away down low behind the mufflers.

The crossover pipe equalizes the exhaust gases allowing the engine to run more consistently. Modern vehicles of all types most likely have an OEM crossover. It's usually hidden on motorcycles now compared to the visible one on the stock 95 883. You can get the same results with an aftermarket 2 into 1 exhaust system. When running 2 into 2 pipes you will only lose a negligible amount of performance so unless your racing professionally, I would not worry about it.
