FXR Cable Speedometer with a 00 newer FXD front end
So I converted my 1990 FXRS front end to a 2000+ FXDX front end. Found the front FXDX lower legs, regular FXD tubes (non FXDX) then found a 13 spoke dual disk cast wheel. Went with the 2008+ HD touring Brembo calipers, and the 11.8" touring rotors.
Since it is an older HD it is a cable driven speedo. The original FXR bearings have an indent that the spacer/cable unit sits into. With the FXD wheel the cable drive unit does not fit.
Has anyone used a cable driven Speedo on a newer front end conversion? If so how were you able to do it? Any insight would be appreciated.
I know this is old but just ran into same thing with 94 fxr putting 2000-2003 Dyna dual disc forks on. Going to be running 2000+ 13 spoke mag with sealed bearings and brembo calipers with 11.8" rotors. Any input on the speedo drive?
I used DX forks on a custom bobber but used timken wheels so it was easier. Still I had to cut some of the drive down in a lathe to get the wheel to line up. I'd simply take the current speedo drive and cut it down.. You can get drives from drag specialties if you want to save the original unit.
