dyno with a power commander
hello, i have a 2015 softail slim, im looking to get it dyno tuned with a power commander, from a independent place, i have heard alot of things about this guy, i just want it to run right, harley can only tune to current state emmision standards by law, so i figured ill go to someone that can do a proper tune, he recomends the power commander..any thoughts?

I don't use a power commander, however there are many tuners available and I suspect that each dyno shop chooses one and specialises with that brand. So IMHO you will get the best out of a dyno tune by going with the brand your chosen shop recommends. If you have good recommendations for that shop then it sounds as if you can expect to get a good tune!

Hi Papa11,
I just bought a New 2015 Breakout and had tried a Slim, but it was too lowered for me to ride comfortable at 6'1" just didn't fit me. Nice bike though, I really did like it's looks! In 2013, Harley finally came out with some new designs, that weren't just the same old Softail with different paint, i.e. last years paints mixed trogether to make a new custom one of a kind color!
Anyway, out of the box I put on V&H 2 into 2 Drag Pipes, HD SE Racing Air Stack, and Harley SE Racing Tuner Kit Mapping. The new 103B engine pulls like a tractor now, that will do 150 mph in 2nd gear!!! As you can tell I am very, very pleased with this setup!
Check the HD SE Racing Tuner Kit (Mapping Software) about 5xx$ OTD, but my dealer Atlantic County Harley here in Southern NJ had a winter sale with 15% off Parts & Labor, so it was a bit cheaper. It also DID NOT VOID my 2-year HD Warranty as the HD Dealer installed all the parts and flashed the engines ECM to a Stock HD Racing Mapping for that exact combination of Racing parts! My old riding partner is the HD Parts Manager and said using the non-HD Approved Power Commander (Or V&H Tuner which I think is even better) WOULD VOID my WARRANTY! I trust him with my life, and have in the past. HD makes two Mapping Kits, one street legal in all 50 states, blah, not for outlaws like me, and a Racing Tuner Kit for closed course use only. Now that's what I want! Go fast...ooom bah, snaps your neck in every gear! Oops, where's my old lady gone to, better hang on next time? So now I am illegal in all 50 states and happy as Hell about it! Cops stop me all the time to check the bike out, but none had a gas chromatagraph on them to check my emissions, so there... Try one out, I am sure the HD dealer knows someone with this exact setup, pretty common mods. I could Dyno my bike, but who needs a little more HP and Torque, not me now. BTW, Dunlop says NEVER Dyno a Tire and then ride on it! Too stressful. Hope that helps, ride safe, and fast, but don't get caught, take care Pat C Riding with the **** Show Crew through the SNJ Pines.

If you go to Dynojet's website they have a map with "approved" tuning shops. I have used just about every variation of Dynojet tuners over the years and have been extremely happy with all of them. I've also found that unless you have motor work done or an off brand exhaust the base maps provided by Dynojet are pretty close and satisfy most customers.

Welcome PatC, sounds like you have it all figured out! Awesome info!
OP, there are many tuners out there and everyone has their flavor. That being said, the Power Commander has been around a long time and is among the most popular tuners out there. If you have found a dyno tuner you trust, use the brand of tuner he recommends, you will get the best tune you can from him that way. I have had 2 of my previous bikes dyno tuned using PCV's and was very happy with the results.

If you are not in some kind of certified race that requires every last cubic inch of power then you may wish to consider Fuel Moto.
They can supply you with a Power Commander V that is pre-programmed for your settings so you can by-pass the dyno run cost.
Folks on the forum speak well of them and they always comment on the positive support.
Seems like it would be about $300 in your case for a self install that is rather straightforward with standard tools.
