Default Fatboy life?

As mentioned in another thread, I bought my 2009 Fatboy (96 Cub. In) two weeks ago and it seems well taken care of. It has done 26K miles (42K km) and has had all its services. What is the life expectancy and what must I look out for? Regards!

As with all motorized vehicles, there's too many variables at play for anyone to predict accurate life expectancy.

From component variations and fitment at machine factory to assembly, to operating environment, to maintenance. Even a simple thing like an air filter not sealing properly in the housing could throw in a variable from one machine to another.

With proper preventative maintenance and care, I would personally expect these machines to go for around 100,000 miles before major repair work time. Some go much more, some go less, it seems. I'd be quite happy though, with the 100,000 mile mark before major work is necessary.

Engine: First you will need to be aware of crank run-out over the life of the motor. Inner cam bearings can also be a problem.

Primary/Transmission: The other major issue with this drivetrain is the automatic primary chain tension assembly. They have and will over tighten the chain and will cause premature failure of the inner primary bearing and plastic caged transmission main bearing. You can help avoid this by installing the Baker Attitude Tension Assembly.

There are plenty of threads that discuss all of these issues and I would find a dealer or indy shop that is aware of all of these issues in your area and address them as needed.

Thank you! Not good news.... For the price, Harley should have long ago remedied these shortcomings I'd think. Regards.
