Cool

I've repainted mine and dismantling the pucks was easy. Check on-line here, where you can see the components that make up the pucks and latches. I left all the rivetted metal brackets on and my painter painted around them. I did buy new #79048-98 latch seals, the self-adhesive foam rings that fit around the puck spindles. I'm pleased with the end results:

I just use a big pair of water pump pliers and work the spring out of the stem on the puck. Once you do it it's easy ..

The hockey puck is integral with the spindle that goes down through the lid. On the inside of the lid, remove the 'D' shaped thick wire latch. Pull on it until it detaches from the spindle. It looks a bit intimidating, but as Captain Itch suggests, a bit of brute force will win the day. It might be an idea to take photos, so you can see what they looked like before you dismantled them!
