It occasionally will do this when cold as well but usually when it's hot. It starts but has a little trouble getting there. My first suspicion is oil blow back in the intake but I'm not sure how to stop that if it is the case. I've attached a video that makes it easier to understand what I'm talking about. It's like it's choking for air. Has anyone else come across a problem like this? I have tried searching but haven't found anything quite like this.. Thanks! -Kyle
Kyle,
I have a 8 Ultra with a similar thing happening. Cold start perfect. Hot start is a problem. It sounds like something it breaking inside but it always starts in around 2-4 seconds.
This issue started for me in late 14. My riding style normally is to ride then it has plenty of time to cool off b/4 my next start. Lucy has 50 k on her. I'm searching for some pre-knowledge b/4 I take her in for repair.
First, make sure your batteries are charged and pass a load test. If all is well with the battery, it is time to get into the primary. I would put money on the fact that you are having compensator issues. Your bikes both fall in line with the years that had the most compensator failures. Get this looked at sooner than later because you can cause ring/pinion gear issues as well as starter issues if you keep hammering on your primary components with bad compensators...
