I'm real close to buying a fuel injected 2005 Dyna Wide Glide with about 24,000 miles on it. From reading in this forum, I'm aware of the cam chain tensioner and valve seal issues with this year and model. I'm wondering if there is any way to tell just by riding and listening to the bike if there is impending doom in my future if I buy this bike.
I recently purchased 2005 FXDWG carburated model and have the same concerns. I have noticed that 04 and 05 were the only years for that particular design, does anyone know why this is? Thanks, Good Luck azthunt.
Thanks Wideglide CVO. I ended up buying the bike and intend to do exactly what you did.
Did you do the work yourself or did you pay to have it done? The dealership quoted me $1100 to convert to hydraulic tensioners including a new oil pump and upgraded Support Plate.
That is not a bad price for the conversion, and it is highly recommended. Might as well put some better cams in the bike while the cam chest is apart. It should only drive the price up to about $1500. Regardless if you do cams or not, have them replace the inner cam bearings to Torringtons while in there...

I paid $1600, had HD do it and had them change inner cam bearings and SE 204 cams while doing the cam chain tensioner upgrade.

I finally scraped together the money and ended up having a local indy do it for $1100 but that included the upgraded cams. Thanks to all for the advice, I never would have had the cams done without the input from everyone.
