Default Mounting Highway Peg Clamps

Any tricks regarding installing the C-clamp highway peg mounts to the engine guard without scratching the heck out of it? I've read one post about using painters tape, but I've also been looking unsuccessfully (online and in parts stores) for rubber spacer strips to separate the metal pieces. I don't baby my bike. I beat the heck out of her, but I just put on a new crashbar. Thoughts?

Find an old inner tube and make your own strips.

I didn't use that type, for that very reason, but bought frame-mounted pegs - for our Sportster. You don't say what your bike is, but there are several options for Sporties.

Thanks. I've got a 2010 Fatboy Lo. I've already bought the parts. The damn things are going on one way or another!

I suspect that unless you get metal to metal contact, when tightening your pegs up, they won't stay where you put them. Once you are riding there will be occasions when you will push on them, either when stretching, or going over a pothole. By all means use some tape to clamp them in place while deciding where you want them, to minimise damage, but remove it when you are happy.

Default Grip tape

Maybe bicycle handle bar tape. Or get condoms with the little studs they might hold better. No lube!

This is why you should not use anything between the clamp and bar. Also once they are mounted I assume you won't be taking the off any time soon, so any marring will be underneath them and not seen....
