Are you sure you are not missing a digit? Typical engine numbers are 3 digit model code + year code (number or letter) + 6 digit serial number

This information is not complete. Engine numbers are 10 digits long. The digit he is missing is either part of the serial number, or the year code, either one would solve this problem. That is what I was referring to.
