Backfires when starting

Backfires as it's trying to start, or after it starts and on choke?
If you have a CV, bottom your A/F screw(count the turns, write down) back it out 1 1/2 turns, if a Mik do same but back out 2 full turns, then restart, (If S&S , no idea.)
Note:CV a/f screw controls fuel amount, Mik a/f screw control air volume
Check intake manifold to cylinder head for air leak.
Check intake manifold seal for tears, fitment on carb throat.
Check for binds on choke cable, fully opens when pulled.
Check float valve, float level.

I dont get how it could be the battery, especially when it doesn't have a problem starting.
