are there any motorcycle code readers that are no more than $100 out there?
needs to be able to read multiple bikes harley, suzuki, kawasaki etc.
any suggestions and links would be great. thanks
personally i do not know of any. to do that, you will need a laptop. that is what is use now since software is easy to load and you can have multiple systems. when i first started back in the 80's, i bought name brand stuff and only have them out dated in short order, still have a 1500 dollar otc reader that uses cartridges for diff vehicles, totally useless since OBD2 mid 90's. then there are the otc ones that you can upload firmware and stuff and even those are outdated and they were a couple of 1000. the best hand held that i used was the techtool gm used, even that is out dated.
there are many protocols or communication schemes and diff readers have diff levels of interface. now offshore, the laptop programs could see all the way down to the actual command in and command out (switching of the transistors and such). this is necessary if you are data logging an issue, less capable readers can only show failure. with scada, we could control platforms at great distances even open/close wells and start/stop compressors.
the short answer is no.
there are cross brand code/diagnostic tools out there, but they cost in the thousands, not 100 dollars or less. most 2001 and later harelys can be read through the speedo, the asians aren't that hard either, the process is described in the FSM's.

I was hoping Harley had OBD2 Protocol so I could check all codes, using the onboard port,
I can access codes through the speedo, as I have been doing though.
Will the speedo diagnostics give me any and all codes , or is there a ton of useful DTC info that I'll never get through
the speedo?
