Default Visor style trim rings.....

So today I decide to but some of the new Visor style trim rings. Take off the stock trim on mine (05 Road King Classic) and slide the new on on for a look. Ok so there is a gap between the ring and the actual head light....hmmmmmmmmmmm ok not the greatest but I can live with it. Moving along I start to tighten the nw ring up, different than the clip and one screw from the stock but who I'm I to argue drawing a split ring should work....right? Well after she's aboout as tight as I can get her I can spin it with my hand, hmmmmm, ok try some weather strip foam all that does is make it look lop-sided, now what? afet about an hour of test fits, sizing up etc... I put the stock ring back on loose, take the screw and nut off the new one and slide it over the stock ring (this step scratches the **** out the the stock one so good thing it's going to be covered) squeeze it together and to my surprise it seems like it can hold. At this point I just want it back together for a fide tomorrow and need to get the spot ligh rings on so I tighten it as much as can be and it holds great and if you don't look at the 1/4 -1/2 in gap at the bottom it looks ok. Did the spots they came out perfect... I don't completely like the way the head lamp ring looks ..but it's on and doesn't seem to be going any where.
Anybody have any experiance with these new rings let me know if I totallly goofed here somewhere but I sure can't tell where!

the new headlight trim must be installed right over your stock one.. this is why you found it to be loose.

I recently bought the HD speedo visor and it was nowhere a good fit even though the instructions stated it was for my model year.I took it back and got one from JP cycles with a perfect fit.I have had better luck with some products for my older softtail than HD products.True, goes over the stock one.

I had the same problem putting the visor style trim ring (H-D part # 69733-05) on my headlight nacelle (H-D part # 67907-96A). It does slip over the stock trim ring put doesn't fit worth crap (gaps), poor design. I returned it and then found one from custom chrome, chrome 7" headlight trim ring with built in visor (custom chrome part # 30107). It's a very nice piece, it replaces the original trim ring (compared to fitting over) and it's a nice fit aswell. You use the rubber ring and rubber ring clips from your original trim ring for the installation of the new one. Custom chrome's catalog can actually be viewed online at there web site.

I just posted a comment on the same topic.

I'm trying to install the fog light trim rings. What a piece of crap! I got the L/S on after a struggle, but find myself struggling to get the right side on. Horrible design!

I had to walk away...before I mangle something on the bike with 87 miles.

I still can't get the R/S on......I'll try tomorrow. If no go..I'll take it back.

Who makes this stuff? Got to be an idiot!

Someone with an engineering degree from K-mart!

I'm so pissed......because it should go on in minutes..not hours!

I have the same problem. I've had the headlight visor trim off/on 3 times trying to get it so it doesn't have a gap. A friend of mine has a R/K Custom and he got his on with no gap but he said he had to keep adjusting it and spent way too much time doing it. I may just replace it with the Custom Chrome part like Flstf1 did. My eye goes to it everytime I walk by it. Drives me nuts having it look like that. I did notice the part was made in cheaplaborland.

I installed them on mine and didnt have any trouble. It took me longer to get my tools rounded up than to actually change the rings. I went all the way around and got the turn signals also. I thought the turnsignals were the hardest to install.

I need to get a new pic with them in the signature but it is in the album...

This past Sat. I installed the visor style trim rings on the Turn signal, passing lights. and headlight. All fit super except the headlight visor. I had about a 1/4 in gap where you tighten the trim ring. To me it looks like crap. I took it back and ordered the one from custom chrome today. Thanks for the info.
