Removing Water from The System
You truely need to get the water out if there is enough to float the oil by draining. Especially a car. In a car, if a head gasket leaks antifreeze into sump, it floats the oil above pick up and engines do not run long on water for lubrication.
The oil ELV saw in excess is normal for an older Softail since left setting, oil from the tank will run into the engine leaking by the oring in the oil pump and past the check also in the filter. When stored, mine will drop on the stick in 4 months. I usually park mine about 2 months max and it's down at least 1/4" . My set 5 months this winter and I ment to look where it was but forgot. Just had to hear it run. Put a new battery in it, renewed the tags for 3 years. Rode two days and pollen bought killed me. Guess that's what I get for living on the beach 5 months, ridding a pedal bike 3 hours a day, drinking a tequilla and having fresh fish for lunch all winter.

Was also thinking the same about the oil leaking down into the engine but it sure happened quick on this one. Supposedly only a month sitting and the entire tank seaped down. Sort of making me think there may be some other issue I need to be concerned about. Haven't checked the oil pressure yet or verified flow which I guess I need to do.
Regardless thanks a heck of alot for all the info.. Must be hell being a snowbird!
