Default Starter Relay

i was wondering ...would a bad starter relay stall out your bike while you were riding???

The other day I was out for a ride on my 05 Softail Deluxe...just cruising along....My bike started to loose power..it back fired ..then stalled....pulled over and tried to restart it and nothing...no clicks ..just nothing.....light's were working ect....no big puddles of leaking whatever..there was no hard grinding of parts!!...
So got it towed home...put a voltmeter on the battery...appeared normal....did some research and someone stated checking the starter relay (Grey one) in the fuse box...it said to get 2 wires and jump the circuit to see if the bike turns over...well it did..So I have a starting point..bad relay...

but would that cause the bike to loose power and stall while I was riding it???..or did something else happened that killed the relay???

Any thoughts??

What makes you think it is bad?

Have you made your battery cables are tight? Can still have lights, but clicks when starting. But would not cause you to stall.

Bad starter relay would not cause you to stall.

cables are tight...and I get no clicks....push the starter button and nothing....took out the relay and bypassed it with two wires and it tuned over....so its either the relay..or may be the starter button???..it weird...just ringing along and lost power..

maybe something electrical in the starter button housing on the handlebars??? causing the the bike to shut off???

Just get a new starter relay. It's only $7 from HD and your issue will either be resolved or you can rule it out as your issue.
