Default $1500 Sportser Build

So I bought this sportser last year and everyone said I'd grow out of it but I figured they were full of ****. Well it's happened. My become a sluggish, unresponsive bore.

I've got $1500 to put into the motor and want to get the most bang for my buck. I know there are a ton of post on boring out too 1200cc and that's my plan so far, but what parts? What formula?

Thanks for taking a look. Any links to useful threads are welcomed and any info on builds you've done would be great too. As the short rain season approaches in San Diego I'm getting more and more obsessed with this subject so anything at all helps. Trip out to slab city. Most recent.
Palomar mountain

Day after purchase. New tires, brakes. Fluids and carb rebuild.

if you are not a member yet.
even if you up to 1200cc, you still will be disappointed. let us face it, hd is old school and there is many modern engines of lesser size that will run circles around you, not to say that you can not make them run but, $$$$$$$$$ and they become more unreliable.
either you love hd or not, you can not be a sunday school driver or one that pounds upon the chest proudly saying i own a harley.
in the long run, check out this forum's blower/turbo section, both worlds, power and reliability.

With your limited budget, you won’t realize the engines potential. A1200 kit would be a start but don’t expect miraculous results with just the cylinder and piston change. If you can add the head work and cams along with a performance exhaust, you’ll be amazed at the power. Looking at your pictures, I’d bet you’d pick up power by getting rid of that ridiculously small air cleaner— an engine has to breathe!
