Default doc. fee

was just about to sign on the dotted line. when I noticed a $199 doc. fee the sales creep says its for the office girls and all the paper work they do. Is't that what there profit on the bike is for? I'm paying cash for the bike, transfering own title so how much paper work can there be.When I seen that charge I got up and left the dealer. I'll be going to more dealers in my area to see if they too have a bogus charge like that. $199 doc. fee what a joke. They lost a sale over a stupid charge like this. I have no proplem paying $199 more for the bike, but not when they try to get it like this. Just raise the price of the bike $199 and be up front about it . Thanks for letting me vent. I feel much better now.

Screw them. Nobody pay's me extra for the office staff, over the quoted price, for me to do the paperwork on a sale of the plywood I sell. I wouldn't pay it. I didn't at my dealer. Tell them you'll walk if it doesn't dissapear off the invoice.

I don't think I was charged a doc fee but in my elation at the time I don't think it would have mattered.

"Uh huh, uh huh, gimme da keys, uh huh...keys please."

That's about all I remember.

I was going to be charged the same thing. When I asked what it was for, I was told it was to go down to the DMV and register it.

I told them I would do it.

Dropped the $199, rode the car to DMV, came back, asked for bolts to put on the tag, had wife massage face all night from pain due to perma grin.

You'll find very few dealers that will drop doc fees in my neck of the woods. They are most likely on every vehicle you bought whether you know it or not. You are basically paying them an additional $199 profit and I doubt they will drop it. If they do you will be very lucky. You can bet someone else will buy your bike with the doc fee. Ask them to discount the bike or throw in an accessory you want to make up the difference. Show your willing to work with them and they will do something to get your business back.

I don't mind if it's in the quoted price. Everyone has to make money, but the price is the price. Everytime I buy a car, a appliance, or bike I tell the sales goof that I will walk if at the end of the deal there are hidden charges, and I have. There is always someone else that wants the sale. I just want a final price, so I can add the taxes and then calculate the payments or to decide if I can afford it. Think of the guy's that are financing this purchase, they are paying interest on a paperwork charge that they were not expecting.

BigB, good for you!

It's the principle of the thing, them trying to "stick" you with an additional $199.00 charge.

You certainly have the right to go elsewhere's.

Default RE: doc. fee

Recently bought a Ford Freestyle for THE MAMA through work and the Ford X-Plan. We go to the web site, pick the model we want, do a dealer search, print the paperwork, take it to the dealer. Fixed price, no haggling. And we also get any sales discount the dealer is offering, as well as any rebates Ford is offering. Dealer tried to add doc fee, but I pointed it out to him and showed him in the paperwork where he wasn't allowed to do that. He looked a bit miffed at frst, but quickly plastered that car salesman grin back on and took the fee off.
Far as I'm concerned the doc fee is just a rip off. The office staff is part of the overhead. Period. Learn to live with the profit built into the price.

Default RE: doc. fee

When i bought my bike the salesman just told me what the dealer expects to make on the bike. Im sure the doc fee was in there but i didnt know about it.The salesman told me what the price of the bike was(no negotiating), price that dealer expects to make as profit(no negotiating). The only break he gave me was the fee they charge to assemble the bike. He waived it. I liked the way they did it, all hidden fees was already in dealer profit. I dont need to know that there is a doc fee for someone doing paperwork, another fee to clean bathrooms, another fee to mop floors, and maybe a fee to pay the utilitys.
Dealer profit is dealer profit. adjust the markup to cover all expenses.

A doc fee would just **** me off too.

Glad you walked, find another dealer that will be upfront about it all.
