Can anyone tell me if there is an actual tool available to remove the star screws with the pin in the middle of the star? Or, is there a known method of removing them (in example, from the exhaust pipes). Thanks for any help you can give.
Thank you very much, I really do appreciate the response. I stopped by my local Bennett Auto Parts store after church and found a a set of the Tamper Proof (Torx Bits) Star Bits.
I hate torx, but especially hate tamper proof torx. The TPS on my 98 Ultra is held there with tamper proof.....the only tamper proof torx I have found on the bike anywhere.
I've bought all my torx and hex bits from these guys (t handles, 3/8 socket, etc) http://www.wihatools.com/
I found most torx bits are poorly made and the tips tend to break. These guys make a pretty high quality product for a fair price. I've done numerous orders from them without issue.
They call the tamper proof torx "torx security tools"
I've found that if you take the bits and use the side of a grinding wheel and grind them flat as opposed to the rounded config that they come with , it works better and you don't run the chance of stripping the bolt out either because it seats deeper into the bolt.
EVORIDER, what's a TPS? I looked all over my '06 Ultra and don't find any Torx bolts that have that head.
One of the things I've been amazed at, is the incredible amount of torque necessary to break loose the bolts on anything on my Ultra. I had to use an impact driver to get the saddle bag trim rail loose, as an example, to install a trailer hitch.
