Default Dyna mod job logical sequence/order

So I'm gonna be doing a couple mods to my 08 street bob this spring and I'm looking for the most logical sequence in which to do them. I have all the parts in hand and simply do not want to duplicate effort by puting stuff back together and apart again. looking for tips on the order to proceed. I have a shop manual in hand.

-new TBR 2 in one exhaust (was thinking at the end to prevent possibility of scratches etc.
-new air filter
-swap both wheels
-swap the upper triple tree
-install new risers and new bars
-remove rear srut covers
-remove rear shocks for powder coating
-remove rear blinkers and swap tail light
-remove foot controls for powder coating
-engine, primary and transmission oil changes

any advise on easiest way to proceed?

thanks!

Wink

You can sort those tasks into three groups:
  • service,
  • front end,
  • rear end.
You can do each group in any order you fancy IMHO, just don't try to do too much at a time.

Quite a lot of that involves the front end - forks, bars, wheel, etc. When you put your bike back on its wheels all that group should be done and working! Note that a lot of members get electrical problems after a bar change, so make sure you take your time, check your work and ensure the electrics all work correctly before moving onto anything else! Disconnect the battery before starting, to avoid further problems.

It will be tempting to remove your shocks, etc first for powder coat, which would be a good idea, as the turn-around time is down to someone else. You can then do the other rear end jobs while waiting for your powder coat parts to come back.

Hope that helps!

I'm late to the party but just came across your "looking for tips" on how to proceed post.

Did you complete your projects?

-new TBR 2 in one exhaust (was thinking at the end to prevent possibility of scratches etc.
-new air filter
-swap both wheels
-swap the upper triple tree
-install new risers and new bars
-remove rear srut covers
-remove rear shocks for powder coating
-remove rear blinkers and swap tail light
-remove foot controls for powder coating
-engine, primary and transmission oil changes

I'm wondering what your Bike looks like? Have you considered posting before & after pics?

I've done most of it. Except for shocks(which I'll just replace eventually) and controls(winter project). All the paint I've done myself in the end with great success I must say. Here are some pics, I absolutely love the bike.
