My '51 Pan has two stands! If you rotate the kick start lever all the way down to it's stop, you can lean the bike on it , like in the case when the jiffy stand vibrated off and hit the road somewhere back there.
You're right Dan, I am a late comer to motorcycles. I started at 18, and I'm turning 41 next week. I was not around in the cool days, but dangit, I'm trying!
I started when I was 15 but soon I'll turn 73. I called it a kick stand back then and still do today by golly!
All I know is that I read a book in the 1980s and Harley referred it is as the "jiffy stand". Ronnie's parts website states "FRAME ASSEMBLY W/ JIFFY STAND" for my 2019 Electra Glide parts listing.

Was around bikes a good bit when a youngster . Started riding 1970.

Yup, it has always been kick stands up. So the esoteric question of the day is, once you bring your bike up, the side stand is no longer locked, so does a jiffy stand become a common kick stand.
If a group leader said, jiffy stands up, I leave that ride and watch them ride away and head in another direction. Good riders and by someones by the book riders are two very different animals. Thats only because your book might not be my book or the right book. Its just the book you use as your bible.
okay, just got off work, first cup of coffee, this was only thread worth commenting on before I get a life. Thanks for keeping it going. Hell of a lot more fun and inconsequential than any oil thread.
