Wow, good job sleuthing multihdrdr. The HD CSR wasn't able to get me an image of the backrest and you pull up the entire installation doc. complete with images and a bracket I wasn't aware of that's required.
I'm a lot farther along now than I was just this morning. So now I'm searching for both the seat and a bracket with accompanying hardware. What are the odds of finding thrm? Who knows but at least I now know what I'm looking for. Can't thank you enough multihdrdr.
Maybe joe40x. but the Saddlemens doesn't have 2 holes in the bottom of the column like the drawing in the installation manual shows that multihdrdr was kind enough to provide. I've posted a thread in the Dyna group asking if anyone has one to post a picture of the backrest and the measurements. Hopefully, I'll get lucky and someone will. Then maybe I can find a match.
Not attached emotionally to the seat. I am attached to my dollars though. It should be much cheaper to just find a backrest for the OEM seat than to replace both seat and backrest.

There is no denying your logic, however there is the small matter of availability. A brief internet search really only identifies this thread! I have had some success looking for obscure parts on Ebay, but it can sometimes take months. I recommend you start by checking the HDF Classifieds and place a Wanted advert there, as a first move - at least it's free!
You have pointed out the main problem. None available anywhere and no known clones. So, if I don't get any responses from the Dyna thread I may have to change direction. I've been looking at the retro solo driver spring seats. They come in a number of different looks. Then I could purchase a standalone backrest for it.
