Default 2009 Low Rider installing new handlebars

I am replacing my handlebars on 2009 Low Rider with 10 inch apes with less pullback to straighten my old wrists a bit. Before I get into it if anyone sees this early today, can I just loosen controls and slide the old bars out after unbolting them and slide controls on new bars before bolting them instead of doing all the disassembly usually necessary to change grips? I am putting everything back on because I know wire harnesses and idle and throttle cables are long enough and I'm hoping brake line and clutch cable are long enough (I'll find out when I get to that point). Any help is greatly appreciated.

I suspect you will find yourself with a puzzle on your hands! To start with, if you have stock grips, the left-hand one will probably have to be cut off, as it is glued on - that is certainly what I did only a few weeks ago with my Sporty. Having unclamped your bars, the darned things will keep you busy, simply supporting their weight. To slide off the first set of controls I suspect you will run out of slack in the cables/wiring on the other side. This is one of those jobs that would be worth making a start 'by the book' now, rather than wasting time trying to take a short cut!
