Default Internal throttle installation

Has anyone had to enlarge the internal diameter of their handlebars to allow an internal throttle mechanism to fit, and if so, how did you achieve that? A lathe would be tough to set up. A die grinder would be inaccurate. Drilling seems dangerous....any thoughts?

year an model bike? are you running wiring an a mechanical throttle cable inside or do you have throttle by wire? I thought I had some book marked from when I was going to do a internal mech throttle on my '15 slim but I deleted them. I'd suggest at least 1.25" bars. one guy did 1.5" bars an ran his clutch an brake lines, all the wiring an internal throttle cable inside the bars. super clean job.
