I would be better off loosing 20 lbs of body weight than counting on the battery weight reduction.
Of course if you do not use an official Harley battery that supplies official Harley electrons to your motorcycle you may void your warranty on your entire electrical system
Hey Buzz,
Been running my lithium Antigravity battery for 3 years. Great starts all the time. The voltage stays for long, though if you have an alarm then you need to pay attention that the voltage doesn't drop lower than 11v. A lithium battery can endure damage under 11v.
Just make sure to use a special lithium battery chargers, not a standard charger. Your dealer might want to sell you one of these as well.
I did not see a battery or battery related section so I hope here is ok.
Also, after a "Search" I did not see this topic.
A few hours ago I was told I need a new battery from HD Alligator Alley in Sunrise, FL .
They said there is a NEW battery "LITHIUM" which is 20 lbs (YES 20 LBS) lighter and does not need to be charged for a year.
I said:
1) Give me the regular battery.
2) I will not be a guinea pig. (For HD or ANYONE.)
Does anyone have experience with this NEW Lithium battery? (I have a '17 Ultra LTD.)
Anyone want to voice pro's/con's?
Thanks as always!
i never worry about how much the bike weighs, the bike does not need to lose 20 pounds, I need to lose 20 pounds. You did the right thing, Did the dealer offer to throw into the deal a special trickle charger for the lithium battery?
I put a Bikemaster lithium in my Heritage last November. It weighs about 3.5 pounds. It cost me 167 and so far its been good. Lithium batteries are slow to crank when its cold out, about 45 and under. If you run your lights for a minute before cranking they heat up real quick and are fine. On warm days it cranks like a beast. I bought a new battery tender junior which has a lithium and a regular mode built into it. All you do is press the button for a lithium and let it charge. Ran about $30.

Think about it if you lose 20 lbs and put a battery in that's weighs 20 pounds less you now save 40 pounds. Now you're talkin 🤣
Here is a question I have not seen answered on Lithium battery chargers, perhaps someone with more knowledge can answer. This is a BobRR type question so be kind:
If a special charger is required to charge a lithium battery, why does the charging system on a Harley not need some sort of update as they are made for charging lead acid or AGM batteries. I would think the charging system would need to be modified to accommodate the charging of the lithium battery. Do lithium batteries charge at a faster or slower rate? To me electrons are electrons, what is the difference in how they charge and the need for a special charger?
I went out to start the Limited yesterday, and all I got was clicking- The resting voltage of the battery was over 13V, but when I hit the starter the volts took a deep dive, so I'm thinking the battery is toast. I got 5 years out of the factory one. Bike was on a tender all winter, and the tender light showed green. Even after I tried to crank the starter, the tender went back to green within a few minutes. I put the battery on a regular charger and will have it load tested later today.
Not sure I want to spend the money on a Li- on a #900 bike the weight savings mean nothing to me.
I need to lose #20 (or more!) more than my bike does.
Maybe if Li batteries were a bit closer in price to AGM, I'd consider it.
Gary, they appear to be NEW here. How long have u been running the new batt's?
I've been running lithium in my bagger for about a year and a half, and in the Dyna for a just a few months since I just finished building it in November. Both of mine are Anti-Gravity brand. The lighter weight is a nice benefit, but was not why I decided to try them. Hot starts on the 120 were a struggle sometimes with a standard battery. The lithium battery with it's increased cranking amps cured that very well.
