Pinlock visors ?

Being an 'old fart' would someone enlighten me as to what a 'Pinlock' visor does ? Is it for ventilation, if so then how does it work ? Thanks guys.

It allows an anti-fog shield to be installed on the visor. Kinda like a double pane window.

My Shoei has one. The area around the pinlock this morning fogged like crazy, but the pinlock device remained clear so my vision wasnt affected.
