Default Burnout damage 2000 softail

Have done a couple mild burnouts on my Heritage Softail. Now it is making a ticking noise. It sounds to me like it is the adjustable pushrods but I am not sure. Can anybody give me any advice? Thank you

You 2000 is subject to ripping the 10 splines out of the alternator rotor. Especially if you are smoking the tire and it hooks up suddenly. What mine did years ago when someone was smoking it on a worn out tire and it blew. However, the tick it had only developed after a lot of slipping of the rotor and as it wore steel to steel, it let the primary sprocket move over and the alignment started nipping chain as slow speed and in a left hard-turn.

If you are referring to at idle tic, get you a two ear Harbour Freight Mechanic stethoscope and figure out where tic is. You can't just stand back or use a screwdriver. Just too much other racket and sound travels thru metal.

Do you suspect the pushrod adjustment came loose?

Either stop doing burnouts, or learn to repair the damage you do...

A ticking noise, all you can do is try to narrow down the area, and then start disassembly and inspect.

Easy stuff first.
