Default 2003 fault codes readable?

So on my 03 SE Deuce whith FI I wanted to know if I could check for any stored or stored codes. I did the kill switch on then push in the trip reset button hold it in while turning the ignition switch to on. I didn't get a sweep on the speedo or the tachometer but I did get the dinognos on the odometer then I clicked through all 10 modes all were clear but the #8 showed what looked like a 3 digit code reading 533 or SEE. I cleared it now I never had a CEL on the dash no steady red engine light, but it would just come like normal for a few seconds and then both the engine and security lights turn off. I would like to know is if I am using the correct procedure and if anyone knows about the 3 digit code I pulled from mode 8? I do have the FACTORY service and subment manuals and I have the parts manual nothing about pulling codes in them. The only factory manual I don't have is the electrical one. We are talking about a FXSTDSE Guys. Thanks in advance for any help.

Default Then why

Does my odometer show the word diog, and then when you hold it down again it will scroll through 10 banks where it shows the word " CLR" show after I go through each of the bank of 10 supposedly indicating no codes? Sorry about my novis syntax, but you know what I am saying...no?

From what I understand , since your bike is an 03 your going to have to use a jumper wire to retrieve your codes , so your going to see flashes instead of numbers on your odometer . Follow the instructions on the web page and you should be good to go .

Sorry , my bike is newer so my way of retrieving codes is different from yours , just reading what the web page is saying . Another member may chime in and verify my findings and be able to guide you through it a little better .

Default Since my bike is

Made in late 03, and the FXSTDSE was one of the first CVO models you think it may have the newer type of code pulling. I know what the the other posts say and I am aware of the general consensus but never the less I am100% sure I can both read and or clear DTC's via my odometer and it's reset button??????

What you initially saw when you were checking for codes was likely "set" or do8SEt rather than 533 or SEE.
do8SEt indicates speedometer power supply was over voltage at some point and this code was set as a result.

These particular codes you are reading on the speedo from do1 through do10 are related only to the speedometer itself and not other sensor codes stored in the ECM.

As already posted in that helpful link from MyFavRk, any engine diagnostic trouble codes stored by the ECM are accessed by using a test lead across pin 1 and pin 2 of the data link connector and then a series of flashes from the engine lamp in the speedo display will follow if a particular code has been set.

So the series of 10 all clear only pertains to the speedo, or would they include other electronics? Like my turn signals (hooked up as running and brakes along with turn via the module)or any thing like security or oil pressure light like. Anyways I never had or have a CEL. I will post back after I do the jumper to the two pins trip, and then I wil know for sure about any and all codes past or present. Thanks again....but don't forget when I started turning wrenches the money was on the Japanese big 4. I only been messing with HDs for the last few years! So I already have a jumper cable and it will have to wait until sunrise for me to get out of bed and into my garage.
