Default 87 Softail for first bike?

Hey all,

I’ve been offered a minted 87 Softail in trade (pictured below). There’s nothing wrong with it as i’m aware, I’ll be sure to check it over when I look at it but before I make plans to meet I need someone else’s opinion. Would this be a good starter bike? I’m an avid cyclists (not a direct comparison to motorcycles but still) and I frequently ride pit bikes and 250’s with my buddies. I’m also a high schooler who lives in an rural town and would ride to an even more rural-er town for school. The skinny front tire almost scares me but I don’t know much about it. If i’m leaving out info please message back and i’ll do my best to respond.

Thanks

Can't go wrong with an Evo for a first bike.. especially a Softail custom... If you can get it for 4K it would be worth it.. very easy to work on.. just make sure you get a list of all the upgrades..

Not a first bike for a kid in high school...

The first time the starter solenoid just clicks instead of the starter motor cranking and that bike will be in the shed.

This bike is a great bike, I know because I have an `89 (since new).

But for a young guy just starting out, who needs point a to point b transportation, I don`t think this is the best bike.

This bike will need some mechanical work along the way when something goes wrong, and a 33 year old bike is going to have mechanical and electrical issues, simple for most of us with experience, but a show stopper for a kid with limited mech experience and probably no money...
