A lot of different things go into what I set my tires at:

*Ambient air/pavement temps (including daily differential)
*Bias ply or radial/tire compound type
*Expected weight load
*Expected type of riding for the day (ie interstate or back road cornering)

Might as well add tire wear wear to your inspection of tire pressure. I'm a 40/40, re-air at 39. I check about every week, use an angled valve on the rear to make my life easier.

Default Tire PSI

I call the tire manufacturer, be Avon, Metzler, Dunlop, whoever. Based on a conversation about their tire model and my current bike model.. That is the psi I set the tires too..

I as well have called tire manufacturers and never got a straight answer as to what was an appropriate amount of air pressure for their recommended tire. All they ever gave me was whatever the motorcycle manufacturer says.. To me it sounds like it's another one of those liability things nobody wants to be responsible but yet they all recommend this pressure or that... But...when you question them on it and are looking for a direct answer they won't give you one.. It's all
Bu LL sh it...... run what you want....

Some manufacturers give recommended pressures for the size of tire and type of bike, and they'll usually be higher than the tire pressure sticker on your bike (if it's still there). Here' Avon for example:

If your tires wear more in the middle, you're not having enough fun.
