Angry Choke

I found out today that when I pull the choke on my 2000 Heritage Springer (107 CI Screaming Eagle), it springs back by itself about 2/3 of the way back in. It acts as if it has a spring return, but I do not believe a spring return is incorporated. So it appears that all the time that I thought the choke was fully out, it was only out part of the way. I will now have to hold the choke out as long as necessary to ensure I actually have the choke fully activated. Also, I would urge those of you who have a zip tie attached to the choke mechanism to secure one the spark plugs wires, that you check to make sure that the tie down does not interfere with the free movement of the choke staff, preventing it from fully seating.

Woah there! Take a closer look at your choke **** and you will find that you can adjust the tension on it, to hold it open. Easy-peasy! Should be in your FSM.

Thx. I just looked up the procedure. Since this is a new to me bike, I am still learning about its operation.

There actually is a spring at the end inside the carb. As mentioned above, you can adjust the tension at the bracket where it's mounted on the left side. The way I do it is to loosen the nut on the back side of the bracket, tighten the plastic collar on the front as much as I can with my fingers, then re-tighten the nut on the back. Stays put all the time. And if vibration loosens it, I just repeat the procedure.

Cheers!

Yea, tighten that tension adjuster. Worst case scenario, buy a new one for like $20.

Careful not to over tighten and break it! The treaded portion is hollow plastic...

Final Jeopardy category: Harley Davidson Carburettors

Question: This manufacturer designed and manufactured a 40mm constant velocity carburetor for Harley Davidson from the early 90's up until the mid 2000's when they fully converted all their motorcycles to fuel injection?
