Default Higher Octane????

Ive always run regular unleaded gas 89 octane in my bikes.
This weekend i filled up with 93 octane Super unleaded.
After about 10min & the old gas was out of the system
I could immediately notice a significant difference in how the bike ran.
its an 2003 88" FXSTFI ( Fuel injected FatBoy) 23,000miles
More power, sounded better..
I cannot belive what a different it made!!
Has anyone else ever noticed anything like this...?

Nope. Never noticed any of that. I didn't think higher octane gas has a higher energy content than a lower octane one.

If your bike has anti knows control, whrn it detects precognition it retards the spark to reduce the ping. This then reduces performance. Add octane , less ping, less spark retard, and better performance.

Octane does not add performance, it enables it. In actuality, the additive can slightly reduce btus.

Higher octane burns slower.

18 SGS,107 pretty much stock, mufflers and a stock improved tune with PV. I don't do a bunch of mileage checking but on a recent run to NC burning 93% & Ethyl I got 48 MPG, Filled up when we headed home with 93% real gas, 51 MPG. That seems like to much mileage maybe to lean. It shore did seem to purr.

I have always used high test or premium in my bikes.

The saving between the price of regular and premium gas on a 5 or 6 gallon tank is only a few bucks.

No,,,it ignites at a higher temperature. Therefore it resists pre-ignition.

Ethanol has about 70% the BTUs (energy) of gasoline, and when blended with gasoline, it lowers the available energy per gallon. So pure gas will give you better fuel economy.

Cheers!

What it does is resist Detonation.

Pre-Ignition is caused by a hot spot in the combustion chamber, and will cause ignition of the fuel air mixture before the spark, in a worst case scenario the ignition could occur just as the piston starts traveling upward on the compression stroke.

Pre-Ignition will destroy and engine in no time at all.

Detonation is when a combustion cycle starts away from the spark plug, but after the spark has occurred.
