My friend called last night and sounded pissed that his 2015 Ultra's water pump crapped out. He said he's done some internet searching, and found alot of guys with bikes in the 20k to 40k range have gone thru this. The moco fix is to install a new and improved M8, water pump. They are supposedly a better design, and should last longer. And if the dealer does the swap out, it will cost in the $1500 range. Anyone here gone thru this nightmare?.,,,
Yes, it has been talked about a lot here, and there are some you tube videos on doing the job. Mine went out on my 2015 at 32K mile, but the new pump was not yet released so I had the old style pump installed under the warranty. I now have 77K miles and that pump is doing fine.
should have gotten a honda. i had an ACE and never a water pump issue, in fact, the local dealer does not stock them as there is no call for them so they avoid inventory taxation.
however, perhaps the pump is rebuild-able. a lot of pumps are getting where you cannot. before i would chuck 1500 to the stealership, i sure would try!

the new style PN kit is available on surdyke with pn 26800107 and instructions included
as you can see it comes with less than 300$ and take about a couple hours to install, so 1500$ is in your dealer wet dreams only.
the new pump is very reliable and it will give you peace of mind
I'm not sure this is the only problem the pumps have but if it is, putting jumper wires to make the connections more solid, is what I would try before replacing anything. And they guy making the video miss uses the terms welding and soldering, but it's the end result that matters I guess.,
very interesting and magnetic drive at that
super +1
that totally removes the mechanical seal issue.
all it cost this guy is time and a tiny welding machine (haha)
i love thinking out the box.

why would your friend be pissed? That bike is 5 or 6 years old depending on manufacture date. New WP is $280 ish. Pop a new on and go another 5 or so years. I dont see the issue.
i find issue with that, every 5 years, really????
honda can go decades and beyond. do you change water pumps on your car/truck every 5 years, hummmmm, why should hd be diff????
hd engineers for lowest cost.
