hi fellow bikers, new to all this forum stuff so please bear with me,question is this, removed steering stem to replace top and bottom bearings and races, removed and replaced races, bit of a bitch, next the bit i was not looking forward to was removing lower bearing from stem but fret not because the original bearing just slipped off nicely and the new one pushed home with no resistance whatsoever , is this right, i would have thought the stem was a interference fit to the bearing..
my concern is the stem will turn in the inner race and not the bearing itself, any help would be appreciated

Lower yoke bearings should be an interference fit onto the bottom yoke. You want to search for Loctite Bearing Retainer 603, which is good for taking out slack, up to a tenth of a mil.
went for easy option, bearing lock, all sorted now but the question is why, clymer work shop manual for 2008 dyna super glide says the bearing may just come away from stem but sometimes it may need pressing off, and it also says using both thumbs to push bearing into position on stem, very conflicting info.
cheers
keep safe
Merry Christmas
now but the question is why, clymer work shop manual for 2008 dyna super glide says
Who knows...It`s an el cheapo generic manual.
There is no substitute for the Factory Service Manual, if you any of the work on the bike yourself it is the first and most important tool you should buy.
that is a very good point mr. ripper
even trailer bearing are like such. even lawn mower spindles which i am dealing with now. one spindle needed some coaxing and the other not so much, i convert them from radial ball to taper type. i guess with the right preload, ball friction is less than the race so it does not move. never had a race to spin except with a bearing failure.
glad you got it sorted out.
