Default My cruise control and outside air temp stopped working; here's how I got it fixed

Hello all,

Just a head up in the event you find yourself hunting a similar gremlin.

Problem: I have a 2015 FLHTK with the FP3 installed and one day I found the cruise control would not turn on. Not set the speed, but wouldn't turn on (amber light) so that you could set the speed (green light). Also, I found the outside air temperature was not displaying any read out. Everything else was totally fine, bike ran awesome.

Troubleshoot: The hunt began. No stored codes, all switches were operational, fuses were good, checked the line with an ohm meter and all wires good, nothing unplugged under the hood, even swapped out the handlebar switch in hopes of finding it. No luck.

Solution: Then, at the suggestion of another enthusiast, I contacted V&H and sent them my map through the FP3 app. They returned it in about 2 minutes and I uploaded it. All good, everything worked again. Apparently my "system switches" had been disabled. Neither the tech nor I knew how that could happen, but it did. So, all is well after a simple flash that took less than 5 minutes. Props to V&H for the killer customer support there. And I still love that FP3.

Anyway, just in case someone runs into a similar problem to maybe save time time and $$.

Ride safe.

By "system switches" do you mean within the software and not any mechanical switches?

Correct. In the software, not a mechanical switch. Corrected by flashing the tune with the system switches / functions activated.

I assume you flashed the FP3, and no upload to the ECU?

  1. I “flashed” the tunes and adjustments using The FP3 several times over the last few years. Never an issue until this time. Always worked well, and seems to be running as good as it is was now, only the cruise and air temp works again. Nothing unique, just plugged in the FP3 and used the available maps in the app. Always worked great.
