a prep is what a detailer would do as a step prior to sealing, coating, or waxing....is the final remove all possible stuff step
You can use stuff on clear coat that will dissolve plastic. Always try and find the MSDS.
It used to be easy to just do a search for [product] msds but none come up for eraser or prep.
If they are to be totally safe on plastic then they should not contain any petroleum distillates or similar. The only stuff I could find suggest they contain mostly water with some alcohol and some other detergent / degreaser components.
Maybe just mixing water and IPA at 4:1 is good enough for most uses.
