Default Brake fluid

Hello, so im in the process of changing my handlebar to a taller one. And one of the steps is that i need to replace the brake line…

i know its DOT 4 only as required in the manual. But does it have to be harley brand? Or any brand will do just fine?

asking because my local harley doesnt have it instock.

As long as it's DOT 4, any brand will do

Don't know the year of your bike, but if it has ABS and you change out the brake line and replace, you will probably have to go to the dealer to have them do the final bleeding. Do a search on here and you should find others who may have done the same thing. The thing is, you can bleed the front brake line, but will still have some air trapped in the ABS module. I would suggest a search on this forum and see what others have done.
If you do not have ABS, then there should be just the line from front master cylinder to caliper and you can bleed this as normal.

dot 4 is dot 4 as mr. roussfam said.
if done right, no need to bleed the entire system.
a lot of people do not realize that abs is a ride along, being the brake system operates like a non abs until abs needs to kick in, hence master to caliper. when abs is needed, you hold the pressure with the master and little pistons manipulate the pressure by changing volume. besides, there are ways to pulse the abs solenoids without the hd tool.

I would ignore the 50,000 mile think with a motorcycle.

It's Dot 4 isn't it???? You'll be fine. Name brand and dot 4 is what you really need. One of the issues with dot 4 is that it tends to absorb moisture. I would probably change and bleed every couple years just to keep some good stuff in the system. With your Sporty and no ABS, this should be a piece of cake. Again search the forum or you tube and you will get plenty of input on what to do.

Only thing I’d do different is I tend to buy the smaller bottles, as stated it absorbs moisture. Because of that you’ll need to throw away whatever is left after you have your brakes bled.

How much does the dealer usually charge to change brake fluid and bleed the system?

Hang on, I'll call and ask. Never mind, they're closed until Tuesday.
