Little update though;

Started pulling it apart to get it ready, and apparently it's been some tears since I've had it apart. Forgot that it has a Screaming Eagle selectable race ignition. Makes me wonder what else is modified on it.

Pulled the cam cover off and the cam didn't even move. Should've done this YEARS ago!

The upper rear portion of the gasket had blown out when the Allen bolts worked loose. Which I think may have been cause by me not torqueing them down when I put the clutch cable on for the 18" gorilla bars on.

I'd replace that plastic breather gear while you are in there. They tend to distort and damage the hole the breather fits in. If that happens you will need to have the hole repaired, or change to the S&S reed style breather.

Also, if the cam cover won't go back on easily, you may try rotating the engine a little while pressing on the cover. If that doesn't work you will need to remove the pushrods.

Yeah, as Paul said you can pull the cover without removing the pushrods and lifters. Just make sure the cam doesn't move. It will drop a little. You may need to use some small rods in a couple bolt holes to lift up while you put in a couple bolts though. Maybe I'm reading your post wrong, but why did you loosen or remove some of the cam cover bolts to replace the clutch cable?

There's a 3 bolt cable retainer on the bottom of the cam cover that holds the clutch cable against it away from the exhaust. I did the bars and what not like 7 years ago and it lasted about 4 years. Then a slight weep turn into a blown out gasket In a couple days (about 300 miles)

Which would be better? I read up a little about the metal one being adjustable for increased scavenging on modified motors but as far as I know thus motor is stock.

Just read some more about the reed style. It's supposed to reduce the oil from coming out the air cleaner at higher rpms. Both are about the same cost from s&s. I don't run this bike near as hard as my 15 glide but there is some oil at times.

If the breather bore is smooth and round, I'd use the regular style steel breather. But if the breather bore is scarred and worn oval, use the reed style.
