I'm preparing to put saddlebag rails on my 2010 RK.
For those that have done it, what did you use to mark the post locations?
Pencil doesn't work.
I tested a spot with a Sharpee and it came off with mineral spirits.
Any suggestions?
Tx!
Use painters tape on the bags, measure twice, place a magic marker then mark a dot on the spot you want to drill the holes.
Put an X through the magic marker dot. Then use a center punch in the center of the X in the magic maker spot. Then carefully drill the holes you need.

Tx man!
Needles to say you drille throught the TOP of the bag.
The factory hole markers are on the NSIDE......and not all of mine are clearly defined.
Not that this will help the situation. I went to put a rack on the tour pack. Because. For some reason HD did not put a rack on the 2018 Ultra Classic. I cut templates measured and marked meticulously over and over. To be positive to place holes exactly where they should be.. Before I drilled I opened the lid to the tour pack and saw molded into the plastic the exact marks of where to drill for the rack.

So.....you drilled from the INSIDE.
I was planning on doing it through the top with bags on bike.
Last time I looked inside I could only see 3 molded marks on each.
I'll hafta look again.......tx!

Yeah. Well. It doesn't make any difference which side that you drill from. I looked at my marks on the top and checked the places molded into the lid. They lined up. So. I knew that HD had thought it out . This is where the holes should be for a luggage rack on top of the tour pack. Drilled from the inside of the lid. Saddlebags?. IDK. You on your own.
