If your plan is to replace the battery, and at 7 years not the worse idea. why not just pull it when you drop it off at storage, and then buy new one in spring. Check your manual to make there isn't some funky thing you need to reset on the new bikes.
At my house, sure for curosity sake I would charge it perodically to see if it starts in the spring. But for you why dick around? I have gotten longer than 7 years, but it is not a bad time to cash one in. especially in your situation.
Worse case, and I think it is wasting money, get one of the goofy brands and replace yearly.

Example: C&D VLA batteries have a 20-year service life. This would mean tests are likely to be performed at years 2, 7, 12, 17, 18, and 19.

1. If you let the battery drain fully, it may or may not take a jump.
2. Jump starting a bike can be iffy.
3. Not a good idea as the new battery would be drained by the old one if the old one shorts out the plates inside.
4. It may or may not start by jumping with your car battery; however running the bike for 10-20 minutes without fully heating up the engine to burn off all the moisture is not the best for an engine. Idling and not riding using the RPM range does an engine no good.
5. If you were using a screwdriver and trying to remove the screws on the post, get you a 10mm 6 point socket wrench and that will remove the screws. If you break a screws on the post, so what you are getting a new battery anyhow.
6. If you bike has an alarm system, follow the directions for battery removal so it dies not mess up the alarm system,

FWIW, I switched to a lithium battery few years back. It sat for 3 months in the dead of winter, cycled ignition a couple times to wake it up, cranked over and fired up like I just parked it. I always use stabil when I park it for winter too.
Thanks for all of the info. This weekend I will buy whatever tools necessary to try and get the battery out of the bike, and even take to my local HD dealership to have them remove the screws if I have to.

@Rocking_it Took a tour of Boldt Castle on Heart Island up in Alexandria Bay, NY. Saw these and could only think of @Rounders and his 20 year old battery. He will probably get a woody looking at the battery photos..............
These are much older though and are dry display batteries. Wonder if they would have enough power to start a Harley.

I work with batteries if not 20 years old are expected to every day. But again, I was not the one who put the link up. These are 125volts, they will more than start a harley.
