I would say you likely won't get it out with an extractor. If you do you probably damage the threads. 1/4 inch drill is way too big for an easy out.. You'll be chewing into the aluminum when you drive the easy out it.. Standard tap drill for 5/16-18 is F which measures 0.257.
The fixture is design to allow re-tapping of the hole which I'm not too fond of. The problem is that the tap can cut the aluminum and not the remnant steel stud. Then the stud will pull. I've had it happen once and the hole got a helicoil.. **** like that does happen when the stud threads are bonded to the aluminum real good. I've seen Abom79 get away with doing it a couple times on youtube tho.
Save yourself the upcoming nightmare and pull the head. The $$ you spend on the Jim's tool can go towards the cost of pulling the head and having a pro (machine shop) deal with it. The only way I would attempt to remove that stud is with the Jim's tool, but again, as above just pull the head.
Sorry been busy working the last day. Finally got around to pulling the heads today, as the above mentioned comment, not without some serious frustration! I think Im just going to take it to a machine shop and be done with it, but I may soak it in penetrating fluid and try and drill it out Monday when Im off again.
There was some oil In the breathing system and the gaskets were brittle crap, but more so concerned with the aft piston. Bad head gasket for awhile? 07 street glide, 44k miles, I doubt any gaskets have ever been changed. I bought it from my papa and he had all his maintenance done by the dealer and I doubt they ever had any reason to open the motor. I do plan on taking it to a 103, but next season. You guys let me know what you think..
