Default Throttle/Idle cable length differnces??

If this was discussed elsewhere in the forums, my search skills failed me.

1998 Heritage Softail with 18" apes. When I bought the project bike, and it was lacking an idle(return) cable. I measured the existing, stretched/maxed out, sloppy and frayed throttle cable = 38.5 housing-housing length.

Called a place and ordered both throttle and idle cables. The experience was underwhelming and I am not likely deal with them anymore.
Cables show up, and per the packaging labels from Motion Pro, I have two idle cables of different lengths. 66-0218(38") and 66-0129(44").

As I have nothing to compare against, not sure if I have the right parts. Should the idle cable be that much longer than the throttle cable? Is the label misleading am and not an issue? Looks like I could use the shorter one as throttle when comparing to old cable.

The two cables would be nominally the same length. If you look at the carburetor, the two cables are going to the same general place.

As I suspected - nearly, if not, same length for both.

Going to assume that having a Mikuni carb is not significant here.

It worked for me, but only just, but too tight. Routed the best way the TM40 pulled every bit of slack out of my cables, which I just learned had been stock length. Combined with the risers this explains to me why it was so tight and difficult to get back together, it was really hard to get the throttle to have the right reactions. 3" longer will sort me out. Thanks for the response, though.
