Default New Breather Assembly is rusty

Breather Assembly part 17025-03A, bought new today, got home, opened them up, and they're a bit pitted with rust. Is this normal? Should I just install them or clean them, and with what? Thanks

Personally I would be taking it back and getting them to replace it. You pay for a new product and you should expect to get a product in new condition.

Personally, it takes less time to clean off the rust than it does to take them back.. The part was only packaged 2 months ago.

BTW they are not pits, they are pimples.

Thank you, I was thinking same thing only because I live almost 60 miles from the dealer. I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

After learning of the term "rust pimples" and Googling it, I have decided to clean the parts with Oxalic Acid, since I already have it. I buy this powder along with Copper Sulfate (not mixing them of course) to clean concrete, metal roof, and vinyl siding using a soft wash method. Spray on, rinse off.

Thanks for the replies.

I hate messing with chemicals.. I'd use a wire brush.. I do have phosphoric acid spray for sheet steel that will get light surface surface rust but a fine wire wheel on a buffer motor takes it off quickly.

Yep. Looked just like the last set I purchased. Surface rust, I cleaned em up and ran em. Wasn't worth losing time heading back to get another (probably same condition).

The white ones are fantastic for lots of clean-up jobs.

Cool Same thing at the end of the month

Hi Folks,

Funny enough, just received same new breathers and they are also rusty the same way. I wonder if it is the delivery month January or what....!?

Anyway I see the resolution here is to scrub the rust gently as you will not get a better shape if you return it to the dealer? Am I right here?

Anybody used to add those inside your engines? I'm sure there some under the gasket also
How many more miles did you get out of those?

Thanks
