Interesting. I would not have thought you would get that much debris.
Kind of like the magnets that are inside a differential cover or automatic trans pan. Catch the floaters. Too bad HD does not have a magnet chip detector on the oil reservoir tank, like the aircraft engines have.
That would be pretty cool.
I am running one and it is always covered in a very thin film of grey micro filings. Bike has a DK reusable filter so I assume this is the stuff that gets by the filter mesh.
Word of caution: the dipstick **** gets to the same temp as your oil and you have to check your oil fast after a ride, or wear ove-gloves.
Purchased it to "detect" problems between oil changes. No regrets.
@Taxgod4u Perfect answer and about the glove LOL, I learned the hard way. I also always have a thin layer of grey micro filings as well.
I also bought it to see "potential issues" Love it. I use OEM HD oil filters, but am thinking of getting their Figurati magnetic re usable oil filter. I'll get wife to get for me for Christmas is my guess.
I also have their transmission magnetic dipstick, same results there to. I think it forces me to check the oil more because I know I got soaked on the prices.
I have stayed away from temp gauges out of fear someone would still and I would be screwed.

Just something that might be of help. Just think of it this way - It helps you spell and write and also gets people off your back - Why not try it. Can't hurt.
