Default general maintinance

Hi everyone I hate to sound like a nimmy nod but I just bought a harley clone, an 88 inch SandS I think it is a shovel head
on a santee softail frame, has a revtec transmission. My question is I need to change the engine oil and check or change the tranny oil and I have no idea what type of engine oil to use nor what type of tranny oil I should run. nor have I ever changed the oil in a harley type bike I pulled the plug in the bottom of the crank case. The oil seemed very thick possibly thick enough to be tranny oil but not very much volume. maby a teacup of oil came out. drainded the tank on the side, beneath the seat plenty
of volume there and where do I drain the transmission oil? I hate being a novice but I don't want to screw up my new bike
only 750 miles on it. Will be greatful for any and all help

Thanks

Randy

Engine oil is changed by the tank drain as you described. Run a good 15w-50 or 20w-50 oil. I prefer Mobil 1 synthetic, but any quality oil in these weights will be fine, especially if you are changing it every 2500 - 3000 miles. So you have a Revtech tranny? Which one? They make quite a few - 6 speed, 5 speed, 4 speed, 5 speed in 4 speed case, .... My stock HD 5 speed Sloptail tranny has a drain plug on the side cover.

New bike built by who? No riders manual with it? Or was it shop built? Got pics? Want any more questions?

First of all 23T what the heck is a nimmy nod [sm=interesting.gif] and picture's might help on the trans. drain. My 04 Heritage trans. drain's right between the shocks on the bottom of the frame, I really don't know about a revtech 4 speed though, sorry maybe someone will come along with the right answer.

Since you said the motor is a shovel, and the tranny is a 4 speed, it's prolly the Revtech HD clone 4 speed. IIRC, the drain plug is on the bottom of the tranny.
