Ok Like bone head I used a buffer to wax my bike and of couse there is a small area that I removed the clear coat now I have been told it should be a fairly easy repair but this base clear is new to me I have no fear using a paint gun(touch up) might even get an airbrush which I have never used before, has anybody ever repaired there clearcoat any suggestions on the proper way to do this just asking before I go out and find some clear to do this with....would this be the same as I see in some arosol cans
very dull paint I would assume it is the clear that is gone as all shine is lost from what I have been told the paint is base clear the ride is an 88 flhtc , tried to get shine back with more wax but no joy it is in a horrible spot or I would just leave it
The 88 MAY be a laquer paint. If it is , you should be able to clean it free of wax and recoat it with laquer clearcoat. Allow it to dry for a week after a few applications and some fine polishing compound will bring up the shine after an easy sanding with 1500 wet sandpaper very easily for any overspray in the area.
You may also be able to get a spray can of the color touch up and just dust the area where you went through the clear and follow up with the proceedure above. You may find the touch up can HERE OR J&P cycles.
If it was a later model, they use urethane paint systems that require a different approach such as clearing the entire tank.
If you need access to purchase the stock paint, PM me and I'll give you some links for it.
