Hi, I'm new to this forum which seems a great place for info so here are my questions. I am looking to get a more touring oriented bike this summer to go with my BMW cruiser (which I love, no flames please), and the Road Glide is at the top of my list (will be renting one this spring to test it). Does anyone know if the anti-lock brakes offered on the police models will be available on the regular '06s. If there are any LEO's out there that ride the anti-lock braked bikes how have they performed? Any major problems? I like the anti-locks on my BMW and want my next bike to have them as well. One last question, both of my sister's are NYPD officers, can they buy a police model or do they have to be purchased by a department? Thanks and hopefully I'll be a member with a bike come this summer.
I have not heard or read about the addition of anti lock brakes to the RG or any of the other models. Your sisters can order a police edition anytime they want, they do not have to go through the department. They simply sign some paperwork promising not to sell them for a year (I think it's a year).
" Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Peace Officer Special Edition motorcycles are offered only to current, or retired, law enforcement officers. Officers must verify current (or retired) employment, name of agency, rank and badge number (requires photocopy of police I.D.)."
For the Law Enforcement Motorcycles it does not say or I missed it but I assume that these models are the ones bought by the PDs as they may be equiped with emergency gear. I would talk to your local Harley dealer to be sure.
Been told that HD Anti-Lok Systems are "Flintstone" compared to BMW.which is causing many departments to reconsider HD as Kawasaki quit making a police model.
What kind of BMW do you have? As for ABS on a hog, really not needed, I would think it may be nice, but prob just overkill. Youll find that on a hog you dont have to 'push the limits', for the thrill factor as you do on other brands of motorcycles. Its a different ride, slower, more controlled, and more enjoyable. To each, their own.

I am pretty sure anyone can buy the Police motorcycles that come in black or white. There is a local So Cal dealer that has some for sale. You can check them out at : http://www.laidlawsharley.com/new_ve...31I47JPMQ870R0
Check the touring section of the new bikes. They will answer your questions via e-mail.
I have an R1200C Montana version (some extras standard that make 2up more comfortable, it works as my wife truly enjoys traveling with me). I think of ABS as something that you probably will need very rarely (and hopefully never) but if you do need it nothing seems to work as well. I definitely agree, to each their own, I happen to be a fan of ABS in motorcycles. Thanks to all for the feedback
The BMW bikes are great cruisers so no flames here. There is number of police bikes for sale in the market both new and used. There is a difference between police bikes and POSE bikes. The POSE's are for active and retired officers only. The other working type police bikes are up for grabs for any one with the bucks! Most LE professionals I've talked with about the ABS have concluded no big deal, as a matter of fact ABS might have some negatives. Non ABS bikes will stop in a shorter distance than ABS bikes. And with Kawasaki getting out of the police bike business most LE types are looking for Harley to pick up a bulk of the business. I don't know about others but when I spend tax dollars I like to buy products made in America, but that's just me. We do buy Ford Crown Vic's which are primarily made in Canada, but the service and most of the parts come from the US.
