New to this forum. I live in Las Vegas and have just purchased a 07 Fatboy. I am also a proud owner of a '03 Smokin Sportster (1200 Wiseco Kit, S&S Super E, Forcewinder, SE Ign, Bassani Sweepers, re-jetting, Metzlers, plus other stuff.)
I look forward to learning the ways of the EFI BT. I do have a question though for all of you that know far more that I do.
I want to do the stage 1 using V&H 2-1 Pro-pipes and Big Sucker. I am getting conflicting opinions though. One Independent dealer with lots of experience told me that I do not need to add a power commander or Twin Tec EFI pack because of the O2 sensors. He states that the sensors will adjust the fuel mixture. Another Indy says that I do, and the dealer wants to only provide me with a Race tune (to the tune of 5-6 hours on the Dyno at 125.00 an hour, $2300 total.....WTF!) I only want to do a Stage 1, I am not going to hit it like I did my sporty.
If you are replacing the Air Cleaner system with high flow and putting a 2-1 exhaust or any free flowing exhaust system, you will need to put at a minimum a fuel management device on the bike. The Power Commander is a fine example of a piggy back add on system for adjusting the fuel and even the timing. The person that told you the 02 sensors would adjust, needs to be educated on the subject. The 02 sensors that are on the bike are narrow band sensors, so they work at idle and cruise scenarios to adjust your AFR to somewhere around 14.4, which is very lean. If you want put wide band sensors and replace the ECM, you can have a true closed loop system, the Thunder Max system by Zippers is a good example of that type of system, it will run you around 650 and no dyno tune is required. If you go with the SERT and a dyno tune from a good tuner, you will have a good running bike, but don't change anything or you will have to re dyno the bike, so you see where I am going with that. The Power Commander even needs a good dyno tune to get the best map for your bike. I hope that helps, it isn't cheap anymore, you have to have some money or just put some slip-on mufflers on and leave the air cleaner alone and ride it like you stole it.
I agree. You need some for of fuel management with the set up you described. Some of the options you have are great. I would also recommend looking at the V&H Fuelpak. They work great and are easy to put in very simple to set up.
save yourself a bunch cash and order a premapped pc3 from jamie at fuel-moto,just tell him the mods. you have made and he will send you the right map he has tuned more bikes then anyone on the planet and he is very good.
