I have a kerosene heater which I use to heat the garage, then open the garage door for a few minutes, and I also have an access opening to the area above the garage, which I move the plywood cover, and the fumes go up there and out the vents in the roof. Works for me.

we have a non vented propane fireplace which we use to heat our house in the mountains, we also have forced air electric....the nonvented is safe if you don't have a sealed up building. crack a window, or the garage door just a half an inch......its safe.

You may want to check into an infrared radiant type heater. It heats objects like you, the bike, and the floor but not the intervening air space.

However you heat it, watch out for build up of flammable vapors from fuel and other misc compounds (paints, solvents, etc.) Even the spark from an electric heater turning on or off can lead to nasty results.

Be safe out there.

Open flame heaters in a garage with gas, paint, paint thinner, with all of the doors shut, well you get the point.

Got plenty of ventlation. Door cracked, window open. Shouldn't be a problem. Propane to a ceramic head is the cleanest burning. They all put out carbon monoxide. Get a detector and mount it where your head is going to be most of the time. Yea at 3 feet if you are going to be working on the ride.

Just cause it hasn't happen. Doesn't mean it can't. People die every year because of stupid crap like this. My cousin used a kerosene heater in his home for 2 winters. He never did connect the headaches him and his wife were having. He is in a new home and no kerosene and no headaches.

I can heat a 14 x 16 area with a single 1250 watt electric heater. I use an old one with the wires running back and forth.

Be safe!

I know this is a little late but I felt compelled to reply. On more than one occasion I've been out puttering around in the garage with the Salamander (kerosene) blowing. After a few cold beverages you kind of forget what to be cautious of. I now make sure my wife checks on me from time to time. If she's a little ornry that day I do'nt fire it up at all. Be real careful. We want to see you on the road come springtime.

I use a vent less 30,000 BTU propane units in my garage. I got it from northern for about $150.00 I think. They also make one for natural gas. It comes with an oxygen sensor in it also. I love it. George
