Default Locks

Greetings Folks

Picking up my first bike (2004 XL1200C) today and am concerned about theft deterrents.

This bike has the factory installed security and not thinking about adding the siren and such. I am more interested (unless persuaded here) in either fork locks or a cement anchor system.

Seems to me that the fork lock would be easier to deal with yet won't deter someone from lifting the bike and hauling it away.

On the other hand the cement anchor would be a little more cumbersome yet more of a deterrent to just lifting the bike and hauling it away.

I'm hoping for some input from you all that have experience with these systems.

Thanks

I like the idea of an anchor in cement, but it's too hard to carry around I use a disc lock that's shaped like a hand grenade and just fastens through a hole in the disc. I'm not too worried about a couple people picking it up and walking off since it weighs slightly over 700 lbs. Anyway, if someone wants it bad enough then they'll find a way to get it.

And welcome to the forum.

Big Al

It they really want it, they'll find a way. I enable the security, lock the gate, and block the gate with my truck. If they get through that and can lift a Ultra, I guess they've got it.

oh I realize that 500 lbs can be hauled away.

I also will use turn it off and lock the forks.

For home though (where it would be parked most of the time) I was thinking about the Cement Anchor.

Are there local (non HD) stores that can be recommended ?

One word: Lojack. If they want it bad enough, they will find a way. Check out Lojack's guarantee and reimbursement policy if you don't get your bike back.
